I enjoy working with the EFT model because it allows me to use science and research to help couples heal their relationships. EFT has structure and interventions that I can explain to couples to help them understand what we are doing in couples work and why. Couples tend to agree that EFT feels unlike any other therapies they have tried before. The outcome studies with EFT are impressive and I can appreciate why from my relatively short time using it, (I was first trained in 2016) as it feels so different from regular “talk therapy” and it is so powerful. Using Attachment theory Sue Johnson created EFT specifically for couples to help make sense of the stuck places that happen in all relationships. It is a collaborative journey for therapist and clients together and I strongly encourage any couple to give EFT a try in order to help their relationship feel stronger and more secure. While nothing can be guaranteed, I do believe that if each individual is willing to do the work, get real with themselves and their partners, couples can heal from anything that has happened between them.
